The
Automobile Club of America building designed by
Ernest Flagg c. 1907 on West 54th Street in
New York City. The building had garages and work areas (including turntables and lathes) as well as an assembly hall and grill room. The Automobile Club sold out in 1923 and the building has since been demolished. Click

Seems like it could have been re-used somehow rather than demolished.
ReplyDeleteWhat is striking is how the building just muscled its way in mid-block between all the residential brownstones. No wonder New Yorks prime residential area of that period, including Fifth Avenue, quickly changed if such development was allowed to take place.
