The Bayard Thayer estate designed by Guy Lowell c. 1901 in Lancaster, Massachusetts with landscaping by Herbert W.C. Browne. Thayer was the grandson of Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Thayer, Unitarian minister of the First Church of Christ in Lancaster and son of Nathaniel Thayer, banker. His obituary called him simply a "millionaire sportsman". Today the house operates as the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center. Click HERE to see the Thayer estate on google earth and HERE on bing.

The Thayer family built half a dozen magnificent houses around the neighborhood, including a remodel of old Rev. Thayer's homestead by Ogden Codman. Most still stand.
Bayard Thayer's townhouse on Beacon Street in Boston, also by Codman, became famous as the exterior for 'Cheers'
(Although to my mind, the finest building in Lancaster is the brick church, designed by Charles Bulfinch. Superb)
Are these Thayer's any relations to the Titanic Thayer's?
a simply stunning gated forecourt
