The F.H. Davis Estate

 The Frank H. Davis estate designed by C.P.H. Gilbert c. 1900 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  The article these photos come from give no other information on Davis.  If we have the correct F.H. Davis, he was the owner of Wesson & Money.  Click HERE to see the Davis residence on bing.

    Here's your F. H. Davis. He may not be the right person, since there's no reference to Elizabeth, NJ any of the material below. And Gilbert couldn't have built the house for this Davis, since he was only about 16 at the time.

    It's possible, however, that this Davis bought the house after his second marriage in 1917. (His second wife had roots of sort in Morristown.) When I have time, I'll try to sort this out.

    On closer inspection probably a convent. Still shockingly extant, altered, but extant in a park-like setting. Like the main floor plan.

    There was a Frank Davis in Elizabeth who was owner of Wesson and Money, a late 19th century company that owned a small gauge railroad and a certain amount of timber land.

    He's my best guess. (And he fits the profile of Gilbert's new money clients better than Davis-the-banker does.)
