New Bedford, at one time, was considered the cultural center of south-eastern Massachusetts. It was a prosperous, well-to-do community as this gorgeous building indicates. With the textile and garment industries vanished, and the fishing fleet all but crippled by government restrictions and quotas, it has morphed into a run down sanctuary city. Still, wonderful examples of its architectural glory exist despite its current negative reputation.
